The funny thing is, Sherlyn thought that I was crying because of Mdm Rozanna but I was not. When we found out, we were like laughing for a long time, not able to stop. What Ms Ling said indeed come through. Sherlyn assumed and she made an ass out of her and me. LOL
Actually, I do hope that the school will really do something about some of the teachers teaching 2A. I am not entirely happy at the way they behave and I really want the school to do something about it. I have a feeling that no one will take action and I will have to bear with them the whole year round. Why didn't I treasure my teachers last year? Mr Soh and Ms Tan, you all were really good teachers. :(
Enough of unhappy stuff! We went to the blood bank yesterday and it was really very fun. When we reached there, we were ushered into the auditorium where we were shown some power point slides. I took lots of notes (not because I am hardworking but because I need to write a compulsary reflection about this trip).
Actually, I really learnt lots of things from the blood bank. Its all in my notes. Some interesting facts that I learn:
1. 55% of Singapore population are within the age requirement to donate blood.
2. The irony is, only 1% are blood donors.
3. Blood cannot be manufactured. Only humans can give blood to humans. Animal blood cannot be transfered to humans.
4. 300 units of blood are needed everyday. (one unit is 450 ml)
5. Percentage of blood groupings in Singapore
O ---- 42%
B ---- 28%
A ---- 24%
AB --- 6%
haha, those are some of the facts that I learnt from the powerpoint slides. Cool right? The interesting thing is, I don't even know what my blood group is. I hope to be O as I can donate blood to all people. I stand 42% chance, lol
At the end of the talk in the auditorium, this is my conversation with the guide:
Me: How much blood must a person receive after a major operation?
Guide: It depends on what the operation is.
Me: What if it's a spine surgery?
Guide: I'm not sure but then for transplant, it depends on a person. Sometimes, he or she will even need 80 to 100 units of blood.
Me: What happens of that person don't get enough blood?
Guide: That person will certainly die.
Do you know that after I heard that, I could have fainted! Now I must urge the whole of Singapore to donate as much blood as possible. You all have 5 months more! Haha, I think I am nuts but I was really scared then. Luckily as a Christian, I can rely on God and trust in him to take care of me. It's great being a Christian.
After the brief introductory talk, another guide took our group around the bloodbank. Sherlyn took a blood test to check her haemoglobin level and she insisted that it was not pain. I believe her but my other classmates were like putting on a scared look when the nurse squeezed the blood out of Sherlyn's hand. it was actually quite funny.
Next, we saw the process of how the blood is being donated and a guy who is donating blood said he had already been donating blood for 15 years and that was his 60th donation. Cool right? We begin asking him lots of questions about the needle and he assured us that it did not hurt a bit. Lots of people did not believe him though.
After that we had a quiz and I went home with Wei Min. That was about all. Oh ya, got to miss choir that day and was super unlucky as next monday will be the choir concert auditions. Christians reading my blog, pray for me ya? Anyway, will try my best and bye.
Joanna :)
